Balochistan has the honor of establishing its first women’s university in Quetta. The need for a women’s university in Balochistan had been felt for decades, and this need was finally realized when the Governor of Balochistan, Mr. Owais Ahmad Ghani, issued Ordinance No. 1 of 2004 for the establishment of Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University in Quetta.
On 26 August 2004, the Provincial Assembly of Balochistan passed the Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University Act. The university is established in the Sardar Bahadur Khan Sanatorium, which has been donated by the Pakistan Railways free of charge. The campus of the university is spread over 40 acres.
The keys to the building were handed over to the Vice-Chancellor on 18 March 2004, the building witnessed a historic transformation where it became the first women’s university in Balochistan and the third in Pakistan. Since that day, Sardar Bahadur Khan Women’s University of Balochistan strives to provide a safe haven to women of Balochistan and Pakistan who are interested in academic and intellectual pursuits.
